WHAT POWERFUL WOMEN WEAR IN THAI LAKORNS

One thing why I love watching dramas whether it be the Thai, Korean, American or Japanese ones is because of the costumes. There is no denying that so many Thai Lakorns don't have the best TV script but it is enjoyable watching their female leading roles' costume. Today I have accumulated some of my favourite costumes of female characters who play a working or powerful woman role in Thai Lakorns. Lakorns are a part of media and fashion in Lakorns is not just merely fashion. Each outfit reflects its hanger's character. The actors dress up accordingly to the power status they have in the society and the character they play. It kind of shapes audience's perception that a gentle and sweet female protagonist (นางเอก) always wear girly, elegant and feminine clothes while female meanies (นางร้าย) who like to fight over a man would be wearing something more seductive, sexy and vibrant. Sometimes when people see someone wearing revealing and sexy clothes, they might assume that the person could be mean and cheeky like what they have seen in the dramas. Fashion in Thai dramas can also spark a trend for audience to imitate.

Now let's see how some powerful women characters dress up in Thai Lakorns according to their power status in the society...
1. Miss G in Kluen Cheewit คลื่นชีวิต (2017)
Miss G is the hottest actress and model in Thailand which means that she in on the spot and every eye is on her so she always has to look put together in every aspect. She is very hard-working, determined and blunt. Her outfits are so chic. They tend to be a bit revealing but they don't give the seductive appeal. In her casual look, I notice that she usually styles them with a hint of bohemian. But, when she is out working, the outfits are a bit more elegant. Kleuen Cheewit is now showing on every Monday and Tuesday on Channel3 so I am looking forward to seeing more amazing outfits from Miss G!

2. Leela in Fai-Lang-Fai ไฟล้างไฟ (2015)
Leela is a well-known fashion designer and a business woman. She seems to like wearing dresses and vibrant clothes but still keeping everything sophisticated and smart and steping into the feminine side. The must that completes every look of hers is earrings. However, although she is a fashion designer, her style isn't as rebellious and exotic as a fashion designer is expected to be.
Lady Ratanawadee is not a normal person because she is related to the royal family so her personality is gentle, sweet, reserved and girly but still looking lively and playful. We always see her wearing midi to long dresses and skirts a lot due to her social status. The story was set in the past so we can get to see the 50's fashion vibe in Thailand. The tone of the color is more on to the soft pastel side to emphasize the sweetness of her character as well.

ReplyDeleteAnother powerful N'ek would be Yada in Ra Raerng Fai 2017.All her dresses would make any city savvy millennial drool. From her chic office dresses which reflect executive power to her home time dresses which seem so comfortable but still manage to pull off elegance.
