Postmodernism is described as the era following Modernity. The idea of postmodernism is there is no real truth. It also rejects the idea that any media product has greater value than others- all judgments of value are merely taste. It involves relativism and individualism. In terms of art, according to Wikipedia, "peoples' opinions change, and since one person's opinion cannot be more right than another, it means nothing to say that one work of art is better than any other. Postmodernism says that art, music, and literature, for example, can be anything that its maker says that it is."

So how postmodernism is related to fashion? Postmodernism in fashion for me is how fashion is out of the box. There is no fixed boundary of how clothing should only be made into a plain blue t-shirt or just something to cover your body. Their is meaning and stories behind every collection and every piece of clothing. It is a mixing of styles, concepts and materials. Postmodern fashion is also a Bricolage because a style is adapted and mixed with used features from another and creates new purpose and meaning. The mixing of postmodern and pop culture can be seen through the silhouette or even the print of the fabric. For example, the print with abstract, confusing and hyperreality elements or wearing things although they are not consistent; combination of completely different things to create an uncommon look.

The distinguishability of high and low culture is also blurry.

Moreover, intertextuality is being used a lot in fashion industry, for example, screening cartoon creatures, famous people or signs on the garment.

Also, how women these days wear masculine clothing style is also a result of postmodernism. It is not a controversy or against traditional culture anymore that women should only be wearing skirts with pumps or heels. We can wear what ever we want like loafers and suits that were meant to be for guys.

Many designers are famous more the use of the influence of postmodernism in their collections, for example:

1. Vivienne Westwood
It is not only shown on the garment but also in the runway. You can see that even the make up is also influenced by postmodernism. They used abstract geometric make up on the models' face (left) and applied lipstick outside of their mouth (right).

Again, not only the clothing but also the way the message is being conveyed and sent through the show.
